Conmotivo de conmemorarse hoy 36 años de la muerte del coronel Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deñó, la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo hizo un acto en el que se destacó la lucha militar y política llevada a cabo por el Héroes Nacional a favor de la democracia dominicana.
La actividad consistió en una ofrenda floral depositada en el busto de Caamaño que está en la Plaza Patriótica Héroes de Abril, ubicada dentro de la academia estatal.
Previo a la ofrenda, las autoridades de la UASD ponderaron las cualidades del comandante Caamaño, quien perdió la vida en combate 13 días después de su desembarco por Playa Caracoles, ubicada en la parte sur del país.
En representación de la rectoría, habló la doctora María Josefina Copplind, vicerrectora de Investigación y Postgrado, quien valoró la dedicación y el empeño del comandante por la democracia tanto en el 1973 como en 1965, lideró la revolución de abril de ese año.
También habló el vicerrector de Extensión, Rafael Nino Feliz, quien pronunció las palabras de bienvenida del acto en el que asistieron además de las citadas autoridades universitarias, Iván Grullón, vicerrector docente; Maritza Camacho, vicerrectora administrativa; Juan Medina, secretario general y Jesús de la Rosa, ex vicerrector académico y comandante de la Revolución de 1965, así como decano, profesores, empleados y estudiantes de la universidad.
En tanto, el director de la Escuela de Historia y Antropología, profesor Dioris Antigua Correa, tuvo a su cargo hacer una reseña histórica de la vida de Caamaño y sus aportes en beneficio del país.

Antigua Correa dijo que el país lo recuerda como Héroe Nacional y uno de los protagonistas fundamentales de la gesta de abril de 1965.
Recordó que su desembarcó por la referida playa el 3 de febrero de 1973, acompañado de ocho hombres, tenía la intención de iniciar la lucha guerrillera contra la política del entonces presidente de la República, Joaquín Balaguer, por considerarlo la continuación de la dictadura de Trujillo y estar al servicio de los intereses de los Estados Unidos y no de la nación dominicana.
Agregó que 13 días después de su llegada, fue herido en combate por tropas del ejército nacional, que luego lo mataron en el paraje Nizaíto sección la Orma de San José de Ocoa.
Exhortó a los dominicanos, especialmente a la juventud, seguir el ejemplo de Caamaño, ya que asumió el compromiso de luchar por la democracia y soberanía de la nación.
